4 out of 5 stars Very amusing, while it lasts.   July 28, 2010
    Lirisimah Sorrim (California, USA)
Originally, I had played Assassin's Creed 2 at a friend's house while I was hanging out with them. Which got me hooked on this game. I genuinely loved the free-running aspect of the game, regardless of everything else it really made a big impact on my experience.

Outside of that, however, the graphics and storyline were marvelously done and didn't leave too much room for improvement (unless you're looking for the whole good vs. evil character choice games, in which case I'd go for a different game. You stick with one storyline, no twists or turns.)

The range of weapons and methods to incapacitate and/or dispose of enemies was very amusing by itself when I didn't feel like progressing through the storyline, and exploring dungeons in the game was very entertaining as well.

There are a few small points that bummed me out:

    - Gender cannot be changed at game-start. (It makes sense in the storyline, but it's still a thing for some people if they can't do it.)
    - Combat gets rather unrealistic when you have a large group of enemies you're fighting. You can basically hold your block button as long as you want and then slowly whittle down the enemies by performing counterattacks when they attack you. I didn't find it too big of a pain though, I still enjoyed the game. I'd find more creative ways to take care of my enemies.
    - Storyline was one-direction only. You couldn't take different turns in a storyline to spice up what happens. It makes sense when you pay attention to the beginning aspects of the storyline, but it's still upsetting for some people.

Anyway, that's what I have to say. I probably missed a few of the smaller things in the game, but if I did they obviously weren't too important for me.
    All in all, a 4/5.

5 out of 5 stars USED TO BE A HATER   July 23, 2010
Devendra S. Mistry (San Diego, CA USA)
YES, regardless what people say I HATE THE FIRST ASSASSIN'S CREED. EXTREMELY REDUNDANT AND UNREWARDING. Yes, I uncovered all the secret emails and even then I found the story to be horrible. JUST HORRIBLE.

Anyhow last year AC2 comes out. I hear that they made massive improvements. Six months pass its release price is reduced by half and I had a gift card. So I decide to give it a second chance.

I have to say I am quite impressed by AC2. Why?

    - MUCH BETTER PRESENTATION.
The game does a very good job in terms of explaining the character development while putting you in the front seat. Unlike 1st one it is not like you just go kill and get an upgrade, go kill and get an upgrade. The game takes you through so many events, each contributes to your motive, your thinking and your ambition as a character.

    -VARIETY OF WEAPONS AND GADGETS
As you may have seen in the commercial, this game features Leonardo de Vinchi. This genius will make you some really cool weapons and gadgets (double hidden blades, poison blade, pistol, flying machine etc.).

    -THE ELEMENT OF CURRENCY
Having monetary system in this type of open world game truly adds motives to the different activities in the game. You want to upgrade your weapons, your fort, well you need money. How can you get money? By performing variety of actions, such as stealing, assassination, beating up cheating husbands, investments (YES INVESTMENTS AS IN BANKING INVESTMENTS), racing etc. etc. NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL VARIETY. In the 1st Assassins Creed it was just like steal document, evedrop or collect flag which was pretty boring. Like first many of these events are OPTIONAL. So that is a HUGE PLUS. If you don't want to waste time feebling minor things. You have options to do so.

    -VERY INTERSTING MAJOR SIDE MISSIONS
Won't spoil, but there are two major secret items you can uncover by exploring very nicely designed HUGE SECRET AREAS and PUZZLES.

-YOU CAN ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE STORY
Hated the first one. You could understand why you needed to kill people, but could not connect the dots as clearly as you can in this one. LOTS OF LOTS OF EXPLANATIONS PROVIDED should you be interested.

-GREAT MUSIC and DECENT FACIAL MOVEMENTS AND VOICE ACTING
    pretty self explanatory.

With this lowered price, it is a must buy.

1 out of 5 stars NOT for an unskilled gamer.   July 21, 2010

1 out of 2 found this review helpful

I read the reviews and they were wonderful. They could not prepare me for the difficulty in the game. I made it through to the third segment of level one. Yes, I had been playing for an entire half hour.. then, I have to somehow beat my brother in a race and I have no idea how to control enzio up the side of the building.. the race is only seconds long and his brother makes it to the top in a heartbeat, and you have to beat the race, and no cheat code is going to help you or get you to skip the level. So, basically, I am at a dead stop before the game even began. I felt like I flushed 25 dollars down the toilet, and being a game, it can't be returned. Ah well, there is always ebay.

Great for good gamers but if you are slightly control clumsy, steer clear.

    4 out of 5 stars a good play   July 14, 2010
    gamer gurl
This game was fun to play. My only concerns were the ease of some of the missions. I really think they could have made the later missions more difficult then they actually were.
I also wished you could run around with da Vinci's flying machine a bit more. You only have one mission with it.
Amazing priced on Amazon.com. Worth waiting for a few months for the price to cool down.

4 out of 5 stars Fun, but mediocre controls and AI is too easy   July 12, 2010
    Foam Head
The game starts fun but slowly degrades into more of a routine chore than a dangerous and exciting thriller. Some flaws:

    * The controls are not optimal and cannot be reconfigured (e.g. while free-running, you cannot move the camera to see if you'll make the next rooftop jump)
    * The AI is way, way, WAY too easy. You can attack dozens of guards at once with no danger of dieing and "bosses" aren't any harder than normal guards.
    * You quickly end up with far more cash then you'll ever need making it useless.
    * The story involving all of the present day stuff felt like filler I could have easily done without.
    * Don't bother trying to follow the story or how all of the conspirators fit together; it's all over the place and, IMHO, largely irrelevant.

All these issues aside, I still had some fun playing it. If you want some mindless and largely challenge-less fun, this is the game for you.
