Not as bad as I initially thought... September 1, 2010 Hevin Jaimes (Caracas, D.F. Venezuela) I was reluctant to buy this game in base to the reviews I have seen in general. But since I enjoy sniping in different games (CoD MW2 by instance), I decided to give it a shoot :).
My first impression was the details of the graphics, comparing with CoD MW2 this game is not as realistic but in my opinion it has a decent high definition graphics engine that permits the immersion of the gamer, so not a big deal for me. During one of the first campaign Acts within an Oil Rig I used an M4A1, even it has the quick aim feature encountered in CoD MW2 is not as precise (more recoil, as seen in CoD Black Ops released videos), so I experienced a sense of scattered shooting, probably more realistic (never used one in real life), just different not bad at all.
I enjoy the sniping scenarios, and what it requires: stealth, compensation, wind velocity, sneaking, etc. This game has it all, during campaign, in the rifle's reticle appears the distance and a tiny red dot for compensation effects when aiming at a target, at first I had a basic clue how to compensate but the more I played the easiest became for me understand the ballistic principles (similar to the one encountered in the sniping mission with the Cap Mc Millan of CoD MW when with a Barret .50 one have to shoot Zakharev in Chernobyl). This important BEFORE going to Multiplayer as the red tiny dot is not present there, you have to compensate by yourself. Believe me is really difficult spot decent snipers during Multiplayer, and there is no kill-cam, which, in my opinion adds realistic to the game experience and I love it.
Of course sniping is all about stealth techniques so the Multiplayer is a HUNTING in that sense the amount of kills are much less than the ones obtained in CoD MW2, in that sense I believe this is more a simulator than a game, cool for me. In general I like this game, since I have not experienced any flaw with it in my Xbox 360 console I recommend it for MATURE audiences.
Don't Waste Your Money September 1, 2010 Whiskeyone USMC This game is a joke. I have spent countless hours of my life behind an actual sniper rifle and as far as this game goes, I haven't been able to find the realism that it's bragging about. Yes you do have to hold for elevation and windage but not to the degree that the game makes it seem like. It wants you to hold 6 and 7 mil's high for a 400m shot and then hold 3 or 4 mil's east to west for a 5knot wind. On a .50 caliber rifle, your going to be zeroed for greater than these ranges and wouldn't have to hold high at all. They messed most of the guns up ballistic wise, no experienced operator would ever choose a Mk.23 for a sidearm, you would always have a spotter, and throwing knives are for at home ninjas only.
My realism rant aside, the graphics are OK, I mean come on its a 40dollar game. The AI sucks. Thats really the only way you can put it. If your using a suppressed 7.62 at 600m, I don't care if you miss the guy or not, if you only fire one round, they shouldn't be able to find you, especially in good cover, but in this game they do, and then lay a kill shot on you with an AK47 facing backwards at 600m. That just can't happen. Come on its an AK.
Good snipers fire one shot, then relocate unless your in a defensive situation. I've tried on this game and they will find you. If you make one sloppy shot, they will find you and more than likely kill you. I don't care what kind of cover your behind, how concealed you may think you are by your Gilly suit, their going to find you and your Mk.23 just wont cut it. (probably because its a 14pound handgun)
If you want a game that challenges your patience, then this is the game for you. If not, definitely rent before you buy. Sniping is my life and I feel like I threw 40dollars down the toilet on this game. Campaign is a joke, multi player is OK, but it's like what bush do I want to shoot at and hope somebody dies.
Worst game ever? August 28, 2010 D. Johnson Maybe I've been spoiled by "Call of Duty" but this is the first game where clear paths are blocked by game boundaries, I spent more time going from A to B than I did shooting. This would be better called Sniper Labyrinth. Then there are the people you're supposed to be sniping. On the screen they might be 10 pixels tall but while nearly invisible they have uncanny accuracy. I understand camouflage but when the programmers have to outline targets in red just to find them something is wrong.
Pass on this and try something else.
Watch out... you may lose sleep August 25, 2010 J. Roper Plot - You're a Sniper! I must have missed the plot when I was blasting headshots in slow motion through the heads of unsuspecting enemies :).
Graphics - Pretty great for a title most people don't even know about by a company (City Interactive) that makes their Xbox 360 debut. Lush green jungles, grass, bushes, trees and some great wind & rain effects.
Gameplay - People are complaining about realism. Well it's actually pretty realistic. Enemies can see you up to about 100 yards if you're anywhere out in the open or moving around a lot in bushes. They can also hear your footsteps. If you play on the easy difficulty it will show red dots that lets you identify the enemies location. However on the higher difficulties you must scope them out on your own which is an awesome challenge. Easy level also shows a red dot on your scope to show where the bullet will hit the enemy. However if you are playing the harder difficulty then you must take wind, bullet drop, and breathing into account and you will not have the red dot. This is not a run and gun. Stealth and patience is key. Other cool things are you get a slow motion bullet cam when you get a good headshot which is awesome. Throwing knives, a silenced pistol and a grappling hook to ascend and descend from trees and of course your standard FPS melee knife attack is also part of your inventory. I just don't understand why in a couple levels you are forced to use an assault rifle and run and gun (Modern Warfare story mode style). This is suppose to be about sniping.....
XBOX LIVE MULTIPLAYER - So good in fact that I stopped my week straight binge of playing Battlefield: Bad Company. I've been losing a lot of sleep playing this online with other folks. It is addicting but very hard once you first start. People on LIVE know how to snipe but practice makes perfect. So don't give up! I've been playing it for only two weeks online and I very rarely am not in the top 3 when the team deathmatch is over. The online downside is there only about 5 multiplayer maps to choose from and sometimes lag is an issue. But plenty of people are online 24/7 for you to play with. It's a great online community and everyone is pretty cool and I've met a few online friends there.
Overview - You can't miss it if you enjoy stealth (and I'm talking more stealth than Tom Clancy games here). I would buy it for the online multiplayer alone. My gamertag is skittler23 if you want to add me as a friend and play some ;).
Disappointed August 18, 2010 corneliusortega I pre-ordered this game thinking it would be AMAZING. I was wrong. I thought this would be a game where you have an objective to kill, get to choose 1 of a few options for vantage points to kill from, and then snipe. Not really the case at all. You are much closer to your enemies than I envisioned. It feels to me that the makers tried to blend elements of the Splinter Cell series into the sniping portion and then tried to do a Call of Duty portion. Both parts of the game lacked. When you are trying to sneak around if you are seen that person will always be able to see you even if you are no longer in line of sight. If you get out of cover they start shooting at you. I played for about an hour and a half before my friend and I got tired of it and decided to play another game. Another year or so of work and this game could have been really great. If they had made it their own instead of trying to combine elements of other good games it would have been better. I wish I hadn't spent my money on this game, it wasn't worth it.
