Shifting International Dynamics: The Hazards of PMC Warfare
Set between Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and Tom Clancy's EndWar from the popular Ghost series, Tom Clancy's HAWX takes place in a world where warfare is constantly evolving--a time when state-sponsored militaries lack the funds and personnel to modernize their forces and elite, private mercenary groups have grown in size and scope to pick up the slack.

The Reykjavik Accords of 2012 defined the role of these PMCs in combat, and they made it fully legal for these groups to purchase from the international armaments market, leading to a shift in the structure of global military power. Over time, you'll do battle on the front lines of both sides as this shift reveals high-stakes arms threats and a terrifying glimpse of the future.

HAWX: The Elite, High Altitude Warfare eXperimental Squadron
You'll begin the game as former U.S. Air Force Pilot David Crinshaw, assigned to provide air support for the well-known Ghost Recon team. You and your fellow HAWX pilots are some of the most highly-trained specialists in the world. Based out of Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, you're tasked with everything from testing secret and experimental aircraft weapon systems to carrying out combat and recon missions, training other top pilots, and attempting to capture enemy technologies.

With the rise of the PMCs, your unique skills in higher demand than ever before. And with 49 playable planes available in game, plus additional planes available to some pilots through pre-order bonuses or VIP memberships, there's no shortage of sleek, fast, deadly aircraft at your disposal as you put your skills to use.

An Iconic, Enhanced Reality System to Help You Deliver Results
When you're in the midst of a firefight, E.R.S. in-game technology can help anyone survive, if you know how to take advantage of it. Featuring incoming missile detection, an anti-crash system, damage assessment, a tactical map, and weapons trajectory control, E.R.S. even allows you to issue orders to your squadron and other units, much like the iconic Cross-Com system in other Tom Clancy games. When you're getting started, you can ease into the rigors of flight and gain confidence by using a special assistance mode that offers support through the E.R.S. This mode can be switched off at any time, deactivating safety features and allowing you to perform advanced maneuvers.

Cutting-Edge Realism and Innovative Multi-Player Modes
Whether you're in a classic F15 Fighting Falcon or a new-generation Gripen, the controls and flight graphics are designed to keep you on your toes. And the game's photo-realistic environments have been created using detailed satellite data. When you pull back on the throttle to jet all over the world, you'll experience this authentic world from a variety of viewpoints.

Game play options aren't limited either, with the campaign featuring solo and multiplayer options with seamless jump in/jump out functionality, and a PVP mode where players can challenge each other to dog-fights for bragging rights, earning experience points and cash, and unlocking additional weapons.

3 out of 5 stars Ace Combat 6 has this one waaaaay beat!   June 8, 2010

If you've played Ace Combat 6(AC6) already, dont waste your time and/or money playing this game. If you havent yet played AC6, then this game is not bad.
Graphics arnt as good as AC6, and its much easier to play in the "normal" campaign difficulty than AC6.
Its an entertaining game all in all, wish I would have played it first.

I had been meaning to buy this title for a while before I actually did. I found this on sale for $20 on Amazon and was an instant sale. When I first began play, I'm thinking to myself "Wow $20 what a steal!" Getting further in the game this thought changed to "Oh, I see why." This could have been an amazing title in my view without a doubt. One small attribute changed all of this - Assist Mode OFF.

Assist Mode OFF is a mode you'll need to fly in as you advance in the game. It gives you better stunt control over your plane allowing for riskier manuevers which all in all give a much better format of play. The problem is that the god awful camera angle! The camera is locked third-person at the most awkward angle. You're at a fixed angle from the side which makes it very hard to have control over your plane. If this camera was behind or could be changed at all, this would be an extremely fun flight game! This camera angle may seem like a slight issue and nothing to deter a purchase or equal favor of the game, but this would be over-looked. This feature made me up and quit playing the game all-together. RENT or BORROW this game before purchasing to experience a few missions on ASSIST MODE OFF to see what myself and others are talking about before spending the money on a dissapointing buy.

4 out of 5 stars AWESOME GAME!!!   January 24, 2010
WHAT?!?!
I got this game a few weeks after it came out. After seeing many of the reviews, I wasn't sure whether or not it was going to be a good game or not, but when I booted up my Xbox 360 and put it in the tray... I was happy with the game. The graphics is just awesome, but some details could be worked on like the different variations of the aircraft and the transitions from cinematic to actual controls so the aircraft wouldn't look jerky while turning. I like the effects of breaking the sound barrier, which gives you the sensation of speed (which Ace Combat 6 didn't have). I just didn't like the fact that your plane cannot go under 500knots when your ASSISTANCE is turned on since you cannot stall unless if you turn Assistance off. I don't like the camera view for Assistance off due to the fact you cannot know the altitude of your aircraft and you crash a lot while you are trying to get the best angle of attack. I absolutely hate the escort missions because they are just plain annoying since your wingmen aren't as reliable as the one in Ace Combat 6. Realism is one of the thing that isn't part of this game, so if you are looking for a game with realism in it, then go and buy a gaming PC instead to play one of those air simulators. Playing these kinds of arcade games are just fun. The light textures are just wonderful!!! I just wish that they had more paint jobs (just like the ones of Ace Combat 6 but more) for the aircraft. I would also like the fact that you can actually look down at the instruments while in the cockpit because what is the use of being in a game where you fly advanced aircraft and were not able to look at the advanced instruments? Overall I think this game is almost as good as Ace Combat 6 but Ace Combat 6 is still better. The story line of this game actually makes sense compared to Ace Combat's story. I think HAWX makes things a little too easy with the ERS. The Assistance mode off is fun if you have an agile aircraft where you can do many kinds of tricks. There could've been a nice place where you could refit your aircraft in the missions though.

Overall this is a great game....

5 out of 5 stars Death from above!   January 17, 2010
D. Couse (United States)
This game is an absolute blast and it has the graphics to boot!

Once you get used to playing in the "OFF" mode, I don't think you will ever go back to blah chase plane view again. In the OFF mode you take the view of say, chase camera, that is positioning itself around you for the best view. Sometimes it works great, sometimes not so great. But the minor flaws in that view, are far outweighed by the advantages it gives. Choose MultiAA for your weapon, hit A, and watch your jaw drop as you see them drop from your wing and leave a smoke trail on their way to the target. This view is like no other and can not be achieved through cockpick, 1st person, or chase plane view (right behind and static view). Need to dodge that SAM on your tail? Watch is amazement as you see the missile approaching your plane, the smoke trail coming at you and at the last minute, you brake and turn hard right...woooosh...the missile goes flying by.

If you actually thought this was going to be close to a combat flight sim, shame on you for giving it bad reviews. Nowhere on the box can you even glean a hint of physics or simulation for this game. This game easily deserves a solid 4 star rating from those who purchased it that were smart enough to realize it is a combat shooter and not the freaking Air Force training flight simulator.
